Mothership For years, as playlists and multidisc players put Led Zeppelin tracks into a mix, there was a perpetual need to adjust the volume when Zep came on. Their tunes languished in the haze of substandard remastering--until now, at least for the 24 tracks on Mothership and the final fullness of the new Song Remains the Same reissue. For its part, Mothership's crisper, warmer audio owes its heft to the troika of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, who helped oversee the mastering, bringing out untold shades even in the throes of "Heartbreaker" and the sinews of "No Quarter." It's an impressive sonic leap. Where tinny high-ends and muffled lows used to co-exist, fatter and louder depths prevail. It's ever more astonishing that Zep got on with just four blokes. You can quibble with the 24 tracks here (where's "The Ocean"?), but the band picked each track here, from the stone-cold locks ("Communication Breakdown" and "Stairway to Heaven," no, duh) to the robust throb of "When the Levee Breaks." As for "The Ocean," you can find that in fantastically full form, along with five other gems on the newly remastered Song Remains the Same, which shows up for 2007's holiday season on DVD, too. Only rarely have four lads from England made so memorable an auditory and visual blast. --Andrew Bartlett More from Led Zeppelin
Customer Review: 2007 remaster versus previous remaster I know the songs, i have listened to them back to back in a good audio rig, the new against the nineties remasters, and really i do not hear THAT great difference spelled in other articles. Indeed certain frecuences were leveled in this 2007 job, but the old remasters sound very very well. My recommendation - buy the complete studio works box, the old live The song remains the same -read my review about the brutal trimming Jimmy did on majestic songs. -, and How the west was won. Also, Page declared remixing the instrument and voice tracks would take ages in the studio. There was no remixing as mentioned somewhere else. Customer Review: Sander Bands Not much to say about these, the delivery was very fast and pretty much what I had expected. Product works as described. I have 3 dogs, 2 of which had wicked long nails, because I am afraid of cutting the Quick, and so far I have only gone through one band and their nails are almost to the length they should be. I will re-purchase when I run out. Publ.Date : Sat, 02 Aug 2008 21:56:02 GMT Dremel 750-02 Minimite 13,000 RPM 2 Speed 4.8-Volt Cordless Rotary Tool We started counting all the uses for this little dynamo, but we stopped at 967. We like it for delicate tasks and finer work because it isn't as powerful as its big brothers, so it's easier to control. It's light, extremely maneuverable, the switch is exactly where you want it and heck, it's just plain fun to use. It's perfect for jewelry, electronics, tiny woodworking crafts like dollhouse furniture and other intricate hobbies. It uses Dremel's wide array of bits, so there's virtually no limit to what you can do with this. Sure, there are store brands on the market for less, but Dremel is king when it comes to rotary tools, and we think they outdid themselves with this one.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste Customer Review: The best option for trimming your pet's nails! I absolutely love my Dremel! I have a 20lb pug who HATES going to the groomers to get his nails cut (can't say I blame him!). My mother-in-law breeds labs and she swears by the Dremel, but I had my doubts. After doing my homework on the safety of using a rotary tool to cut nails (according to many, grinding nails is actually less painful if the quick is cut, and it bleeds less), I chose this model because a) it's cordless and b) has a rechargeable battery. My dog's nails were quite long when I first used the tool - so I definitely hit the quick on a few of them. It didn't seem to hurt him a lot, just seemed like it stung for a second, and they didn't bleed at all. I did his nails in stages over a period of a few days, he's not scared of the tool, nor the noise it makes when it is on, but if you have a dog who is skiddish, this may not be the option for you. Also, it takes some wrangling and determination to do this - my dog squirms and scratches. But after awhile he just gives up, which is when I'm able to really make progress. I'm confident now that his nails are at a point where he'll just need maintenance once a week or so, he'll get very comfortable with the process and it will be a piece of cake. I love the fact that I'm able to easily maintain his nails (I was never comfortable cutting them myself) and I know that he's not in any pain. It's so imporatant to keep your pet's nails trimmed, and the Dremel allows you to do that safely and easily! Plus, at $20 a pop at the local pet store to get his nails cut - the Dremel has already paid for itself! Pros: Cordless, Rechargeable Battery, Battery lasts a looong time before needing to recharge, 2 speeds (use the low setting for nails), light weight, easy to hold. Cons: None! I bought this case to be used on a long 8-hour trip for my daughter (2) and her friend (2). You can hook up the case in between the 2 front seats so more than 1 person can view the DVD screen. It is easy to hook up. My only con to this carrier is that it does not stay level when you hook it up to hang between 2 seats. It remained fairly still in the car for viewing, but it was tilted down. The bag hinge should give a little more so the DVD player weight can be adjusted. For the price, it's still a good buy! Publ.Date : Sat, 02 Aug 2008 21:56:02 GMT Mamma Mia! The Musical Based on the Songs of ABBA: A Decca Broadway Original Cast Recording (1999 London Cast) Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli Customer Review: Mama Mia sound-track I saw the musical while it was in Boston...I loved all of Abba's music in the story-line...My daughter purchased it for me, however I wore it out playing it... I just love listening to all of the great songs from the play... I truly wanted this since it is from the Musical...One of my favs for sure... Publ.Date : Sat, 02 Aug 2008 21:56:02 GMT |
